Best Waterfalls in the Dandenongs
Waterfall Seasons - The Waterfall Guide

These are my favourite waterfalls in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne. There are actually only three waterfalls located within the Dandenongs, so the choices are limited. You can click or tap on the links provided for more detailed information about each individual waterfall.
Sherbrooke Falls is located in the middle of Sherbrooke Forest on the southern slopes of the Dandenongs. These falls are quaint, with most of this cascade not readily visible in the ferny undergrowth, apart from a small section upstream of the footbridge.
Standing on the footbridge, it is only when it has been raining heavily that you can watch the water flow more turbulently under your feet before disappearing down the steep gully downstream. At other times just enjoy the forest walk and lower your expectations about how big these falls are going to be. Sherbrooke Falls Above: Quaint Sherbrooke Falls (Order this image)
Arguably just outside the Dandenongs, the source of water for Horseshoe Falls is Olinda Creek, which flows directly off the Dandenongs. Located in Quinns Reserve in Mt Evelyn, these waterfalls are a small drop over a mound in the river bed. The falls are best viewed when the flow in the creek is not too high, as the falls can be drowned out and no longer visible at high flows. To reach the falls it is a pleasant walk through the scrub along the tracks that run through Quinns Reserve. Horseshoe Falls Above: Horseshoe Falls in Mt Evelyn (Order this image)
Further upstream on Olinda Creek, not far from the summit of Mount Dandenong you will find Olinda Falls, which in my opinion is the best waterfall in the Dandenongs.
Expect a short, steep walk along a mostly wide walking track to two viewing areas. The lower viewing area is the pick of the two where you can stand next to (or jump over) the creek with a full view of the water cascading through the fern gully upstream. I hope you can experience all of these waterfalls in the Dandenongs. If you are looking for more, you can also try my list of waterfalls in Melbourne, which includes these three in the Dandenongs, plus several others around Kinglake and behind the Dandenongs but still within the Melbourne metropolitan area. Before you head out, make sure to read the waterfall safety information.
