Ellinjaa Falls, Millaa Millaa QLD
Waterfall Seasons - The Waterfall Guide

These bell-shaped falls in a pocket of rainforest are best viewed when it has not rained for a while and you can walk up the creek bed. This is one of three falls along the Theresa Creek Road Waterfall Circuit near the town of Millaa Millaa. Ellinjaa Falls Above: Ellinjaa Falls (Order this image)

From the car park and adjoining picnic area, it is only about a 100 metre walk to the falls along a bitumen path that does however contain some steps. Follow the path until you reach Millaa Millaa Creek.
At the end of the track it is possible to see the falls, but the view is partly obscured and there is no viewing platform. This is why it is best viewed in drier conditions, when the creek is still flowing but when you can also walk along the bed or banks up to the edge of the shallow waterfall pool. When I visited on a rainy day, it was not possible to get to the pool without getting your shoes muddy or your feet wet. The falls themselves are smaller than the other two falls on Theresa Creek Road, which gives Ellinjaa Falls a very different character to those other two. Water spreads out more evenly across the rock face of black granite blocks.
In the rich volcanic soils, the river can turn milk chocolate brown after heavy rainfall. Ellinjaa Falls Above: The steps on the last section of the path to Ellinjaa Falls (Order this image)

It is possible to have a picnic here, with a few picnic tables near the car park, but they are remote from the falls. With no toilet facilities, the stop here is probably best for a quick snack, saving your picnic for Millaa Millaa Falls down the road.
